Your initial consultation will consist of a detailed review of your health and a comprehensive head and neck physical exam that includes a screening for the detection of oral cancer. A CT-Scan of the face will be obtained in order to evaluate the bony structures of the maxillofacial region as well as the teeth and its supporting structures. With this detailed information, a diagnosis of the patient’s chief complaint will be obtained and a subsequent treatment plant will be formulated and explained in full detail. Occasionally, surgery can be performed on the same day as the consultation on patients that are healthy.
If your plan is to have surgery on the same day as your consultation, please refrain from drinking or eating any kind of food or liquids for at least 8 hours prior to your appointment time. Medications for blood pressure, heart conditions, thyroid disease and psychiatric conditions should be taken as early as possible, the morning of surgery, with a small sip of water. Patients with a complex medical history will require an evaluation prior to scheduling a surgical appointment. Sometimes these patients will require a medical clearance from their PCP prior to the surgery day.
